The Harlequin Musical Theatre is a passionate, innovative group dedicated to producing quality theatrical productions. Harlequin Musical Theatre partakes in NAPTA (Northern Area Performance Theatre Awards) and is a member of Musical Theatre New Zealand.
Our past shows include the New Zealand premiers of A Christmas Carol and Rent, The Witches of Eastwick, Steaming, West Side Story, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Shop of Horrors and Jesus Christ Superstar.
There are many opportunities for people to be involved – we are always looking for extra sets of hands to help out. Areas include props, front of house, set building, stage crew and production management.
Harlequin Musical Theatre is also available for venue hire and we also offer props and costume hire. Check out our website for updates, current shows and more information.
Harlequin Musical Theatre started as Howick Light Opera Group in 1959. Members predominantly come from Howick, Bucklands Beach, Pakuranga and Manukau City in Auckland.
Harlequin Musical Theatre has our own well-equipped “boutique” theatre which seats 140. We have produced over 90 shows over the past 50 years.
Howick’s choice of shows varies from Gilbert & Sullivan, original pantos to small cast shows like Nunsense and Stepping Out, through to smash-hit large scale musicals. The casts mainly come from all over the Greater Auckland area, and Harlequin Musical Theatre attracts high quality performers.
All of the people involved with Harlequin Musical Theatre are volunteers and partake in a range of activities from set painting to marketing shows.
Harlequin Musical Theatre is always looking for enthusiastic people to take part and no contribution is too small. There is always something to be done, and there is always a laugh to be had.
